About the Item
Pomeranian Traditional Costume, Weizacker, c.1875
This chromolithograph illustrates traditional costume from Weizacker in Pomerania, a Baltic-influenced region of northern Prussia. The richly coloured garments, embroidered details, and distinctive accessories reflect ceremonial dress worn on special occasions.
Pomeranian costume is less frequently encountered than that of central German regions, adding to the interest and collectability of this plate. Kretschmer presents the figure with dignity and clarity, emphasising form and ornament.
Published by J. G. Bach in Leipzig in the mid-1870s, the print forms part of a comprehensive survey of European regional dress.
