This finely detailed view shows Havana, the capital of Cuba, nestled against the surrounding hills and stretching along the waterfront. The scene emphasizes the city’s strategic maritime location, with numerous ships anchored in the harbor and a sailing vessel prominently placed in the foreground. A small rowing boat navigates the choppy waters, adding to the sense of movement and daily life around the busy port. The composition highlights both the natural setting and the urban expanse of Havana in the 19th century, reflecting its importance as a major Caribbean hub for trade and culture. Printed in Paris by Ch. Chardon, engraved by Ed. Willmann after a drawing by Lebreton, this plate belongs to a rare series of South American and Caribbean views prepared for the European market. Condition: Very good, with light foxing and toning along the margins consistent with age. The engraved image remains crisp and well-detailed. Blank verso. Please examine the image closely. Framing tips: A cream or soft ivory mount enhances the delicate tones of sea and sky, while a black or dark walnut frame creates a bold presentation.
