This striking hand-colored lithograph is part of the Fest Album Celebrating Bern’s Entry into the Swiss Confederation on March 6, 1353, an opulent commemorative work published in Bern and Zurich in 1855. Created to honor Bern’s 500-year anniversary within the Confederation, the album captures the pageantry of the era through its series of processional scenes featuring historical figures, cantonal representatives, and guild groups in elaborate regalia.
This particular lithograph, rendered by H. Jenny and lithographed by Kümmerly and Wittmer, showcases Rudolf von Erlach, a celebrated Swiss military leader, leading a procession on horseback. He is depicted in resplendent armor, holding his sword aloft while riding a richly adorned warhorse.
