About the Item

This rare and exquisite set includes five original hand-colored botanical lithographs of various lily species, published between 1877 and 1880 as part of the legendary “A Monograph of the Genus Lilium”, one of the finest botanical works of the 19th century. Created by botanist Henry John Elwes and illustrated by the renowned botanical artist Walter Hood Fitch, each plate demonstrates the precision, elegance, and natural beauty of these floral studies. Lithographed and hand-colored in London, the prints depict different varieties of lilies such as Lilium longiflorum var. eximium, Lilium Washingtonianum, Lilium Brownii, and others. Each print is presented in a handmade, gilded wooden frame with acid-free passepartout, professionally conserved and ready to hang. These works are not reproductions but original antique prints from the 19th century. Technique: Lithograph, hand-colored Frame: Gilded wood, custom-made Walter Hood Fitch (1817–1892) – Illustrator Henry John Elwes (1846–1922) – Botanist and author Although offered here as a complete set, the lithographs may also be sold individually upon request. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in purchasing a single piece.
