Original Contemporary lithograph "Vase of Flowers" Signed Dated 1989 Dedicated Born in Valence in 1938, Pierre Boncompain was encouraged in the love of the arts from an early age. He went on to graduate first in his class at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, receiving the General Council of Drôme Prize, and later studied in the studio of Raymond Legueult at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts. Pierre Boncompain's work is evocative of the environment and lifestyle in the South of France. He portrays a wide combination of modern influences, with exquisite tone combinations in a radiant and joyful Matissean clarity of light. Each year Boncompain spends an extended summer in Provence, absorbing its beauty, and the remainder of the year working in his Paris studio. For his pastel works Pierre Boncompain uses Roché pastels. Originated in Versailles 1720, Henri Roché later took over and worked with artists as Degas and Whistler to develop the pastels to their preferences. La Maison du Pastel is now the oldest pastel manufacturer globally. Each individual pastel stick is completely made by hand, maximising the amount of pigment with a little amount of binder, in order to create pure colour. The resultant depth of tone in the work of art is exquisite. Pierre Boncompain includes Irving Blum, the first gallerist to hold a solo exhibition for Andy Warhol, and Al Gore amongst his collectors. Exhibitions of Pierre Boncompain's works of art have been held in museums across the world, including Musée de Lille; Kajikawa Foundation, Kyoto; Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris; Takashimaya Museum, Osaka; Singer Foundation, Holland; Navio Museum, Kyoto; Ambrosiano Library, Milan; and one-man retrospective exhibitions at the Shanghai Art Museum, China and the Musée de Valence, France.
