About the Item
Limited edition print of Summer Flowers by Emil Nolde features a bright and colorful grouping of garden flowers in yellow, blue, red, and green colors, spreading against the light blue sky. The oldest of the German expressionists, Nolde was primarily a colorist. He endowed watercolor with life, vitality, and a sheer visual beauty, relying on improvisation and expressive spontaneity, capturing his subject matter almost by accident. The flowers appear to be moving with the wind, raising their brilliant tempest of colors up to the sky, bouncing off the jewel-like greenery in a carefree manner.
The print is professionally framed with the gallery card placed on the backing of the frame. It is marked with Milwaukee Art Center card as 2351/3000 of their limited-edition series; it was framed in Rochester, NY. The print and the frame are in very good vintage condition and ready to be displayed.
Convenient size of the print allows it to be displayed either as a part of a gallery wall, as a shelf decor, or as a featured artwork; it would complement various interior styles, from Traditional, to Mid Century Modern, Victorian, Modern Country, Contemporary, Eclectic, Organic Modern, or Collected.

Emil Nolde
Emil Nolde (born Hans Emil Hansen; 7 August 1867 – 13 April 1956) was a German-Danish painter and printmaker. He was one of the first Expressionists, a member of Die Brücke, and was one of the first oil painting and watercolor painters of the early 20th century to explore color. He is known for his brushwork and expressive choice of colors. Golden yellows and deep reds appear frequently in his work, giving a luminous quality to otherwise somber tones. His watercolors include vivid, brooding storm-scapes and brilliant florals. Emil Nolde’s etchings reach far beyond the traditional printmaking of the early 20th century. He created rich tonal and textural areas through unusual applications of acid to his etching plates, masses of undulating, interwoven lines, and scratching with a variety of tools. He taught his inventive techniques to other Die Brucke artists.

His first furniture collections were inspired by traditional Art Deco and Biedermeier styles interpreted through a modern lifestyle demands. Stepping away from merely utilitarian view of everyday objects, his recent collections are filled with meaningful textual context while incorporating traditional and modern woodworking techniques. Roman is using practical function as a common denominator to create emotionally charged art objects, blurring the boundary between art and function. While appreciating possibilities of ordinary materials, Roman is developing new mixed media multilayered composite varnishes and utilizes decorative gilding and mica veneer to actively engage ambient light, giving an additional aspect to relation of his objects to their environment. The decision to work in custom format was based on environmental concerns and opposition to culture of mass production and pure consumerism. The choice of materials was heavily influenced by sustainability and environmental concerns. All objects are made locally in the Brooklyn Navy Yard workshop. Elimination of storage and transportation needs for mass-produced furniture in lieu of creating a custom made objects on demand allows us to reduce waste of materials and energy.
