TAKESHI KAWASHIMA (Japanese/American b. 1930) - Untitled No. 68 - 75/80 - Mid Century original lithograph on paper - featuring a gridded pattern with semi abstract shapes - unframed - signed in pencil by the artist lower right and numbered lower left - comes with the original Moos Gallery label (Montreal) - United States - circa 1960's. Excellent vintage condition - minor tear at the bottom edge of the paper - minor stains and scuffs - no loss - no restoration - signs of age and use. Lithograph Dimensions - 19 1/2" (49.5 cm.) Wide x 19 1/2" (49.5 cm.) High. Paper Size / Dimensions - Large - 22 3/4" (57.8 cm.) Wide x 28 1/2" (72.4 cm.) High. Sculptor, painter and printmaker Takeshi Kawashima was born in Takamatsu City, Kagawa prefecture, Japan, in 1930. He attended the School of Fine Art in Musashino, where he graduated in 1956. It was in Japan that he developed the gridded abstracts that he would become known for. In 1963, he relocated to New York and had already garnered enough attention to be invited to participate in 1965's major exhibit "The New Japanese Painting and Sculpture" at the Museum of Modern Art. Solo and group exhibitions quickly followed, including a show at the Waddell Gallery and the MoMA's "1960s Selection from Museum Collection."
