Provenance: From the distinguished collection of architect and art dealer Michael Thomas Sr., a respected figure in the Metro Detroit art and design community. Thomas was the founder and proprietor of the Metro Collection, a globally recognized gallery with an extensive online presence and international clientele. Dimensions: 25.5"h x 37"w x 1"d (framed). Theo Tobiasse (1927-2012) was a French-Israeli painter, printmaker, and sculptor renowned for his vibrant, narrative compositions rich with symbolism. Over his decades-long career, Tobiasse exhibited internationally in leading galleries and museums, including the Muse d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Jerusalem Theatre, and New York?s Galerie Juarez. His work is represented in prestigious collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. Tobiasse received numerous honors, including the Dorothy Gould Prize in New York (1961) and the Prix de la Ville de Nice (1980), cementing his reputation as a master of contemporary figurative art.

Théo Tobiasse
Born in Palestine in 1927 and brought to Paris as a child, Theo Tobiasse created his earliest drawings before World War II. After the war, having spent the crucial years of his youth hiding from the Nazis in a Paris apartment, he became a successful commercial designer until 1961, when he decided to devote his full attention to painting. Tobiasse's style of painting is highly sophisticated. His technique is a painterly blend of surrealism, expressionism, and modern primitivism. His themes are literary, often biblical, and at times, erotic. His paintings seem to transcend history - fusing dreams, mythologies, biblical stories and his own past - into rich metaphors for the world of the present. An internationally acclaimed artist, Tobiasse's works are included in numerous private, corporate and museum collections worldwide.
