About the Item
This hand-colored photograph or possibly lithograph by Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) depicts a charming garden walkway leading to a stone cottage, surrounded by blossoming trees and vibrant spring flowers. The piece is titled Nethercote, visible in script along the margin, and bears the Wallace Nutting copyright mark.
Nutting was a minister, antiquarian, and one of the most prolific photographers of the early 20th century, best known for his romanticized hand-tinted pastoral scenes of New England and English countryside life. Each print was individually colored by hand, giving subtle variations and a unique character to every example.
