About the Item

Worcester Porcelain Vase Design by Donaldson, Deep Blue Ground, 1910 This striking chromolithograph depicts a large Worcester porcelain vase design after Donaldson, distinguished by its deep blue ground and commanding figurative panel. The composition is bold and architectural, with the dark ground providing dramatic contrast to the pale central scene. NOTE: The print is offered unframed, giving flexibility to select a frame that best suits the intended interior. The attached image of the print in a frame is an impression only. The figurative panel dominates the body of the vase, framed by finely drawn gilt ornament that emphasizes the vessel’s verticality. Gold highlights accent the rim, foot, and decorative borders, lending depth and visual authority to the design. Compared to smaller or lighter pieces, this plate reads as a true statement image. The chromolithographic technique captures both the intensity of the blue ground and the subtle sheen of the gilding, conveying the prestige of the original porcelain design. The print was produced for Worcester Porcelain by R. L. Hobson, published in London by Bernard Quaritch in 1910. It was drawn by J. H. Thorpe and printed by W. Griggs Sons. Condition: Very good condition with light, even age toning. Colours remain strong and saturated. Minor handling marks at the edges. Plate mark visible. Framing tips: Frame in a dark walnut or ebonised frame with a generous ivory mat to enhance the depth of the blue ground and the scale of the design. Technique: Chromolithography Maker: J. H. Thorpe, London, 1910
