About the Item

This beautifully carved étagère murale or “Estanier” was crafted in southern France circa 1880. Traditionally designed to display pewter (étains), this graceful wall cabinet embodies the refined Louis XV style with elegant proportions and intricate ornamentation. The piece stands on small escargot feet topped with acanthus leaf motifs, supporting a scalloped apron richly carved with a classical urn flanked by scrolling foliage. The undulating frieze at the crown features a central flower basket surrounded by floral garlands and is adorned with five turned finials for an added decorative flourish. Inside, three shaped shelves, including the base, are upholstered in green velvet with matching decorative fringe, creating a luxurious backdrop for displaying fine ceramics or collectibles. The fruitwood frame showcases a warm and rich walnut patina, and a discreet lighting fixture has been installed at the top to illuminate its contents. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Ideal for mounting on a wall or setting atop a pétrin or buffet for an authentic Country French presentation. Measures: 27.5” W x 11” D x 56.5” H
