About the Item

Modular bookcase with adjustable shelves. Plastic material. The legendary Italian company Artemide was founded in the province of Milan in 1959 by the designer and engineer Ernesto Gismondi, born in Sanremo in 1931, and by the designer Sergio Mazza, born in Milan in 1931. designing the Alfa Lamp, the company's first successful product, one year before the launch of Artemide. In the following decades, both founders continue to create new designs for Artemide's ever-evolving collections, whose goal is to develop distinctive products, also including suspension and ceiling lamps, in collaboration with the major design talents from all over the world. For more than 50 years, Artemide's approach has dictated the pace of design innovation with sophisticated products, which often ended up on the pages of books dealing with the history of design. Many pieces have been acquired from the collections of museums around the world, from the MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, to the Victoria Albert Museum in London, the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, and the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris.
