About the Item

These large Regency-style mahogany wall shelves were crafted by high-end furnishings and accessories manufacturer, Maitland-Smith. The shelves have serpentine-edged display surfaces supported by four cabriole arms featuring carved acanthus leaves and beads finished in gilt paint. The arms converge at a wide, fluted gilt band bordered with gilt beads along its top edge. They terminate in polished acorn-form pendant finials. The shelves are in very good condition with no repairs. As vintage items, the shelves show signs of age including minor scuffs/scratches to the wood and minor flaking to the gilt paint noted for accuracy. The 18.75" tall shelves measure 23" at their widest points and are 10.5" at their deepest points. The display surfaces are 1.5" thick. The backs of the shelves are equipped with factory-installed, inlaid metal brackets designed to allow secure wall mounting. They also bear rectangular gold labels reading "Maitland-Smith / Designer Makers of Fine Furniture / Decorative Objects / Made In Indonesia". Additional impressed and stamped manufacturer marks are present. The shelves are quite substantial and weigh a combined 11lbs 8oz. These elegant Maitland-Smith wall shelves coordinate beautifully with traditional décor and are ideal for displaying vases, large figurines, or other decorative objects. They are particularly effective at lending a sense of visual balance when positioned on either side of a mantel or mirror. A lovely pair offering both beauty and function.
