About the Item

1833 Sampler made by Ann Crehlow(?) in antique pine frame, English. A huge, William IV period pictoral sampler with a hymn of praise called: The Beauties of Nature, Gratitude to the Supreme Being, Nature's Call to Gratitude. It dates from the late 18th century, reading "How cheerful along the gay mead, the daisies and cowslips appear". The whole is filled with typical sampler iconography. Stains, small losses. Georgian stone townhouse at base. Doves with olive branches, love birds with a basket of fruit, cornucopias etc. descend the panel. Silk on linen. 26" x 19.75" by sight. Frame: 32.75" x 26.75".
