About the Item

Large example of a French 18th century tapestry. We often call these Gobelin's in the Netherlands but that is not a collective name for all antique tapestries. Gobelin was only one very well-known producer of tapestries. Our copy is from France and dates from the 18th century. On show is a large exotic chateau garden with many trees and plants. A chateau visible in the background. In good condition. Colours still very bright. Beautiful shades of blue, green, yellow and gold. Use marks consistent with age and as we are used to with tapestries of this age. In several places some holes from hanging centuries and an old burn mark of a candle. Dimensions: 265H x 308W Aubusson
