About the Item

This 18th-century French painted canvas beautifully depicts the biblical story of Rachel and Leah with emotional nuance and theatrical balance. According to the Old Testament, Jacob is tricked by Laban into marrying Leah instead of Rachel, whom he truly loves. He is then forced to work seven more years to finally wed Rachel, symbol of desired love, while Leah represents loyalty and divine will. The painting reflects the warm, subtle palette of Provençal religious art and is masterfully executed in natural pigments. Mounted on a solid oak frame, the piece features expressive figures, architectural motifs, and soft landscape elements. Old restorations are visible yet discreet, adding character, patina, and authenticity. A rare and decorative artwork, ideal for collectors or refined interiors seeking meaning and depth.
