About the Item

The work entitled Hit (1983) is logo- and poster-like, created for the 1983 Peace competition, evoking the sexual revolution of the 1960s and the slogan "make love not war" of young people protesting against the Vietnam War with a flower motif placed in the crosshairs. Once again, it is an excellent visual compilation and summary of a complex concept, with a similar conciseness and emblematic nature as we saw in the case of the depiction of the black pasque flower. One of a kind. Eszter Kneisz is a textile artist, a follower of the direction esteblished by Noémi Ferenczy. She studied in the Arts Secondary School in Budapest, Hungary. Academy of Industrial and Applied textile artist. She has been designing and executing unique gobelins and textiles, in different sizes and materials. Her works predominantly have a painter’s prospective. The motives she is using draw an inspiration from nature, so she is basically making a painting with the application of threads. All of the issues she is working on are translated to the language of textiles. Her gobelins are searching for answers of different issues in life and art, and she seems to find them. Her works relay to the viewer a powerful message and a lot of emotions. The subjects for Eszter Kneisz are still-lives, flashes of images and stories. The figures and the faces woven by her carry a timeless, eternal truth of things. The dynamics on the images are accentuated by her creating a complex relationship between individuals and spaces. She is perpetually intrigued by the signs and by the meanings of them. Her figures are static and dynamic at the same time, and the harmony created between them will give the viewer the gift of something truly magic. Her textiles with a collage effect have a witty playfulness about them, allowing space for free associations.
