About the Item

ANTIQUE EMBROIDERED FLORAL TEXTILE PANEL A hugely decorative piece depicting branches of a tree with different types of flowers and foliage. There is a somewhat timeless, almost abstract feel to the piece, and on close inspection, you can see the sheer amount of work it must have taken to complete, with many different techniques and materials used for each individual section. including raised stumpwork flowers, wirework, applied beadwork, as well as traditional embroidery techniques. Small, glistening silver cylindrical beads have been generously embroidered onto the panel to demonstrate light coming through the branches of the tree to great effect. Probably dating from the 17th century period, circa 1650 and originating from Southern Europe, probably Spain or Italy. It has been noted that this probably originally formed part of an altar piece from a church. Later framed and glazed in a complementary silvered frame by high-quality framers Sebastian D’Orsai Ltd. of Kensington and Belgravia. London. Overall, the panel is in good vintage order. The majority of the beadwork survives well with minor losses and wear commensurate with age. Some of the natural dyes on the flowers have faded somewhat, as you would expect from a piece of this period. Overall, it is our opinion that this adds to its overall decorative appeal. The frame is also in good vintage condition with only minor wear commensurate with age. Overall approximate measurements: 82cm high x 73cm wide x 3cm deep.
