About the Item

Gretl and Leo Wollner screen print on cotton tapestry. Purples and brown on a white background. The tapestry retains its original paper tag, Road, 802. Circa 1972. Gretl and Leo Wollner met and married in the late 1940s while studying textile design under Eduard Josef Wimmer-Wisgrill, founder of the fashion division of the Wiener Werkstätte. Leo later worked for architect Josef Hoffmann. Through the 1950 and 60s, the couple worked with the innovative German printer, Pausa AG. The quality of cloth and printing is impeccable. Orientation looks fine from either vertical or horizontal. The work is in good clean original condition with no visible damage, pulls, or major stains. No visible rips, tears, punctures or repairs. Apologies for any wrinkles in the photography. They can be steamed out. The overall approximate measurements are 49.5" x 121.5". The piece was purchased from a Westchester County, New York estate of a Knoll executive.
