About the Item
Hand Woven tapestry, 'Sandstone Shore' by Zinta Beimane, Latvia 1996 (born 1946), is abstraction of a sand tone landscape in woven in Wool. Abstract compositions based on various studies of nature became comprehensive in Lithuanian textile art. The motif of the landscape is not considered as a panoramic view but is focusing the perception
closer to tactile surfaces of nature of the textile artist. The tapestry shows an observation of a place
over a long period of time, interpreted in woven textile, expressing the colours rhythms and mood observed in nature.
Beimane studied textiles in Riga. She is seen as in part of Baltic School of Textile Art, known for the variable manifestations of the landscape with a creative approach, thematic interpretation, and technical execution. She is an international artist and has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Latvia and internationally since 1973, alongside other notable Latvian textile artists such as Lija Rage, Aija Baumane, and Edīte Pauls-Vīgnere.
