Large 20th Century Silk Woven Wall Rug after Kandinsky s Composition 9 (1936)

A large, fantastic, silk wall rug made after Kandinsky's painting "Composition IX", created by the artist in 1936. The original painting, notable for its abstract exploration of form and color, can be viewed at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, France. This magnificent, finely woven wall rug was manufactured in a limited edition under license from the heirs of Kandinsky in the late 20th century by Carpet Weavers Association, a carpet manufacturer in Turkey. The composition is framed like a picture frame with a light grey/beige border. The rug has Kandinsky's signature weaved in the lower right corner (see photo). The rug is a piece of quality craftsmanship in silk yarn on a cotton frame. The rug has 10 cotton loops (same as the cotton warp) incorporated on the upper border for easy hanging. The cream-colored fringes on the lower border are made of silk. The rug has been sourced in France. Vassily Kandinsky (1866 – 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist, born in Moscow. He moved to Germany and taught at Bauhaus school of art. In 1933 he fled Germany and moved to France where he later passed away in 1944. Kandinsky had an outstanding visual intelligence and a special connection for color and form. He was truly one of the pioneers of modern abstract art. This wall rug features no labels or markings. However, the above information concerning its authenticity and origine, is based on extensive research and documentation from identical Kandinsky wall rugs. Metal rod for display not included. In very good vintage condition. The rug has only had to be thoroughly vacuum cleaned, not dry cleaned. The front shows no signs of wear: no stains, no holes or repairs. The cotton loops and the silk fringes are also in very good condition. The back shows signs of wear (yarn pulled out from the warp); as if the rug had been rolled up and stored with the back exposed (see photos). Dimension: width 153 cm/ 60 1/4", height (with loops and fringes) 107 cm/ 42", depth 1 cm/ 1/2".
