About the Item
Bring color and pastoral charm to a hallway, bedroom, or stair landing with this pair of decorative French tapestry panels. Woven in Flanders circa 1980 in the Gobelins manner, each textile features a richly detailed landscape rendered in a soft, harmonious palette. One panel illustrates a lakeside terrace framed by floral garlands, classical balustrades, and distant mountains, while the other depicts a romantic countryside scene with gardens, rushing water, rustic buildings, and lush vegetation. Both compositions show fine weaving definition, tonal depth, and the elegant borders characteristic of Gobelins-style verdure work. The reverse of each tapestry retains its original cotton backing and woven label “Point Genre GOBELINS – Tapisserie conçue, réalisée et tissée en Flandres,” identifying the subject as “2609 Verdure Paysage.” These pieces provide the look of an antique verdure while offering the durability and color stability of late 20th-century craftsmanship.
