About the Item
Regency Sampler, 1824, by Eliza Brewster. The sampler is worked in silk on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch. Meandering floral border. Colours green, red, brown, gold, silver, blue and pink. Verse reads, 'Let me be wise in Youth, O Lord that so, I safe may tread the way, I ought to go. Lead me and teach me what, Is right and just, And in thy help O GOD, To place my trust.'. Signed and dated, 'Eliza Brewster Finish'd this Sampler June 18th 1824 Aged 11 Years'. A good set of motifs, including butterflies, dogs, potted flowering plants, fir trees, blossoming trees, birds and fruit baskets. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is stitched to calico slip over mountboard card. Frame backed with wood and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

- Condition:Repaired: Re-backed and re-framed. Generally Good. A number of holes mainly around the edges. All are backed and some repaired. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Very small colour run on red in one area. Frame in good condition.
