About the Item
Mid-Century tapestry designed by Romare Bearden (1911-1988) and woven at Atelier Pinton Freres in Aubusson, France. Gloria Ross asked Bearden if she proposed a title, would he design the imagery? Her suggestion was "Mille Fleurs" after the common name for medieval tapestries with thousands of flowers strewn across their background. The result was this bouquet of tropical blossoms.
The artist's name is woven into the tapestry as well as signed on the reverse label.
