About the Item

Large tapestry designed by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann. It depicts a lattice pattern from flower-sprouting threads on a dark blue background, with repeating floral motifs inside each lattice space. The top includes 15 corded loops from which it is hung. This tapestry was used by Ruhlmann in his interior designs; most notably, it was featured in the bedroom design for Fernande Cabanel in combination with a pair of bronze and alabaster sconces made by Edouard Schenck. Uploaded is a photo of the original bedroom, the sconces are also seen in the primary image. They are not included, but are available for purchase separately. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
