About the Item

Decorate a living room, hallway, or grand staircase with this elegant set of three tall woven portières. Handwoven in Aubusson, France circa 1970, each wall hanging features allegorical figures within ornate cartouches, surrounded by floral garlands, scrolling acanthus leaves, birds, and classical motifs on a deep red background. The intricate designs are bordered by a twisted ribbon and floral border, typical of traditional Louis XIV and Louis XV decorative arts. Each tapestry is backed with a protective linen canvas for added stability and longevity. The pieces boast a strong and harmonious color palette of crimson, gold, green, blue, and ivory earth tones. Portière panels such as these were originally designed to frame doorways or narrow wall spaces in the grand salons of French châteaux and palaces. Today, they would make a striking statement hung on either side of a doorway, flanking windows, or accenting a landing or hallway. Measures: 35” W x 96” H (each)
