About the Item
This silk relief by Pasi Välimaa demonstrates a highly refined approach to textile as an expressive and spatial medium. Executed in silk organza with a silk dupion reverse, the work transforms delicate materials into a composition with clear sculptural presence. Carefully built layers, soft folds, and subtle tonal shifts create an interplay of light and shadow that lends the surface a sense of movement and organic rhythm. Positioned between textile, sculpture, and painting, the work reflects Välimaa’s precise understanding of material, structure, and surface.
Pasi Välimaa was born in 1968 in Nystad, Finland, and later based in Sweden. He studied at Nyckelviksskolan and received an MFA from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Recognised as one of the leading textile artists in the Nordic region, his work is represented in major public collections, including Nationalmuseum and Röhsska Museum.
