About the Item
Wooden wall decor made of a piece of reclaimed wood from antique wood river boat.
Words
bamboos engraved, together with the signature. Strings for hanging attached.
manufactured circa 1870s-1920s, Meiji to Taisho period, estimate from the condition
style.
Reclaimed boat wood is deeply grained by using circumstance, almost like a driftwood, recognized as one of "Furyu (having sophisticated aesthetics in cultural matters)" materials since Edo period, used as the decorations of Tea house, and the signs
counters in the restaurants.
This piece is aimed to use as "Hashira kake (the decoration for the columns) ", so the shape is thin, long and narrow to fit the column.
Original colors slightly remains on the bamboo engraved area
the signature "stamp" area (in traditional Japanese art, the artist usually put their own original stamp, called Rakkan, as a signature - so this was engraved
colored like a stamp).
Altogether, it brings a genuine, sense of beauty in wabi sabi touch.
