About the Item
A fascinating late 17th/early 18th century medieval style carved oak panel of French origin depicting a Romayne-type profile portrait of Saint Luke, also referred to as ‘Luke the Evangelist’.
Inscribed with ‘St Luke’ to the base, we are also selling a similar panel of St Phillip under Stock No. 37111 which would coordinate with this one perfectly.
Over 325 years old, this antique carved oak panel offers a glimpse into the styles and craftsmanship of early 18th century France. Though it is centuries old, the carving is still clear and distinguishable, today making a historic heritage piece for an interior wall.

- Condition:Natural vertical shrinkage split down centre of timber; stable. Due to irregular shape of panel, doesn t quite fit the frame resulting in a very small gap in top left corner. Signs of historic woodworm (inactive). Wire for hanging. Later oak frame.
