Made up of a rich variety of color-drenched ceramic tesserae, this unique mosaic panel depicts a bearded Egyptian head in profile, his headdress vivid in tones of periwinkle and purple, his face ruddy in hues of burnt sienna, deep red and earth. This panel may have been used as a sample by a mosaic company promoting its work, or to demonstrate its approach to the details of a figure in a larger mosaic, perhaps for a theatre or public building.
