Black Forest Red Deer Trophy on Birch Slice - 1935
An 4 pointer red deer (Cervus elaphus) trophy from the Black Forest mounted on a birch slice. The slice features a handpainted inscription on the backside and the teeth of the deer on the front side. The trophy was shot in 1935.
Trophies are mementos from the hunted game, which are kept by the huntsmen as a souvenir or decorative item. For many centuries it was a tradition to collect trophies. Nowadays exactly these are becoming more and more popular as decorative highlights in hunting lodges.
