Abstract Sunburst Wall Sculpture in Brass Verdigris By Curtis Jeré American, circa 1980s This substantial abstract sunburst wall sculpture exemplifies the sculptural metalwork for which Curtis Jeré is best known. Measuring 37 inches in diameter, the composition is constructed in two undulating levels, creating depth, shadow, and a pronounced sense of movement across the wall surface. Radiating brass rods, many tipped with spherical terminals, extend outward from a dynamic central vortex. Interspersed among them are vertically oriented panels finished in a rich verdigris patina, introducing color contrast and surface variation. The interplay between polished brass and oxidized green tones gives the work both warmth and visual tension, a hallmark of Jeré’s late Modernist vocabulary. The sculpture is designed to read differently from multiple angles, with the layered construction producing shifting highlights and shadows as ambient light changes. This kinetic quality aligns closely with the experimental wall reliefs produced by Curtis Jeré during the late 1970s and 1980s, when large-scale decorative sculpture became central to high-end interiors and architectural settings. Unmarked, as is common with many authentic Curtis Jeré works, this example corresponds to a known model from the period.
