About the Item
Danish 1930s Wall Relief in Plaster by Niels Jakob Eriksen (Jacob Eriksen), Illums Bolighus
Beautiful and rare Danish wall relief, likely from the 1930s, depicting a tender scene of a woman and child in profile. The stylized composition highlights the soft, serene expression of the mother and the gentle curve of the child’s head resting against her. The relief is executed in warm-toned plaster (possibly sandstone composite) with fine surface texture and subtle tonal variation, accentuating the organic, sculptural lines.
The piece is signed "JE" on the front – a signature documented as belonging to Danish sculptor Niels Jakob Eriksen (1899–1995), also known simply as Jakob Eriksen. His works often portray quiet, intimate human moments with a stylized naturalism, rooted in the Danish interwar art tradition. The handmade quality is evident on the reverse side.
On the back, the piece is stamped with DST (likely the studio or manufacturer) and retains its original label from Illums Bolighus, Copenhagen’s iconic luxury design department store, underscoring the quality and provenance of the piece.
A unique and evocative decorative object – both sculptural and soulful – ready to hang.
