About the Item

Expressive antique Bacchus wall mask in plaster, France circa 1900–1930. Beautifully aged surface with natural moss patina, showing the Roman god of wine crowned with grapes and vine leaves. A striking decorative accent for garden or interior. An impressive early 20th-century architectural wall ornament depicting Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, festivity, and ecstasy. This expressive mask was likely created in France or Northern Italy around 1900–1930, during the neoclassical revival when mythological faces adorned villas, gardens, and wine estates. The sculptor captured Bacchus’ joyful and untamed spirit with remarkable vitality — the playful smile, curled hair woven with grape clusters, and small goat horns recalling his mythical companions, the satyrs. Made in cast plaster with mineral pigments, the surface has developed a magnificent authentic time-worn patina, enriched by traces of moss and gentle weathering from decades of outdoor exposure. The original wire suspension remains intact on the reverse, allowing it to hang securely on a wall. A rare and decorative piece that brings a touch of antique grandeur and Mediterranean atmosphere to any space — ideal for a wine cellar, garden wall, or as a bold interior statement.
