Édouard Lièvre, Brass Renaissance Revival Lion Medallion Salver, C. 1870 France, circa 1870 This beautiful Renaissance Revival brass salver, made by the renowned French artist Édouard Lièvre around 1870, is a testament to his mastery in ornamental design. Lièvre (1829-1886), known for his diverse talents as a painter, illustrator, engraver, and cabinet maker. Measuring 4 inches in height with a 20.5-inch diameter, this large and impressive salver features a tiered construction with stylized rope applied rim. The upper tier is adorned with a continuous surround of lion medallions, each holding a ring in its mouth, linked by garlands, symbolizing strength and elegance. The center boasts a 12-inch-diameter oval rope-edge cartouche, adding to its regal appeal. The back of the salver is fitted with a hook, allowing it to be displayed as a stunning wall piece.
