About the Item
This beautifully crafted copper art work was made by Huibert de Ru (1902-1980) , a well known Dutch painter and graphic designer. It was destined for a Dutch school, probably in the 1950's but possibly even in the prewar period.
The work consists of about 40 separate pieces forming a Gesamtkunstwerk of 6 by 2 meters (18 by 6 feet, as depicted). Of course there is no rule as to the way the different pieces may be mounted.
The work shows different stages in the upbringing of a child, from education to becoming a responsible citizen, showing the words 'Spel en ontwikkeling' (Play and development), 'Verantwoordelijkheid voor gezin en staat' (Responsibility for Family and State) and 'Kennis' (Knowledge).
It would make a marvelous statement piece in a restaurant, hotel lobby or huge wall in a loft. Take a look at the photoshopped examples of the effect it would have on the space.
