Largest ever and highly decorative, hand carved wooden gingerbread mold. With gingerbread molds dating back to the middle ages these works of (folk) art have an amazingly long history in Europe. Some were (and some still are) real works of art, made with great precision and rich in details and through the centuries bakers did not limit themselves to simple shapes and patterns, but strived to produce more sophisticated forms also. Some were telling stories of historical or contemporary happenings and the earliest gingerbread molds therefor have even been considered the earliest 'forms of print', like small newspapers from the middle ages. It was not uncommon for local bakers to 'speak out' there political preference in their molds either. This largest that we have ever seen mold is framed for wall mounting and it comes with a beautifully hand carved scene of a 'field marshal' like figure on a horse. He is holding a flag with eight stars and beside his horse are a canon and canoneer. They look like they are celebrating a victory and we feel this hand carved scene has something to do with a country (or region) becoming independent after winning a battle. It must have taken the sculptor a very long time to create this work of beauty, because this entire scene is carved out of a very hard mahogany or teakwood.
