About the Item

Rare and finely detailed pair of polychrome painted and carved wood reliefs, likely from Valladolid, Spain, dating to the 16th century. Each panel depicts one of the apostles — Saint Peter, holding his symbolic keys, and Saint Paul, with his sword — rendered in high relief with richly colored polychrome decoration and sgraffito detailing. These devotional works reflect the Spanish Renaissance style and are remarkable for their craftsmanship, historical significance, and state of preservation.
