About the Item
Sculptural canvas relief with a 17th century Italian Florence fragment titled "Torch IV" by Elena Rousseau.
The sculpted canvas is molded together with fresco plaster, gesso, ash, green earth, and 24k shell gold on board. The original 17th century Italian Florence fragment is molded into the sculptural canvas to create a dynamic relief sculpture.
This fragment is from a church in Florence. It was found and saved from the historic flooding of the Arno River in 1966. There is still the original paint and silt left on the piece to uphold the integrity, craftsmanship, and history of sculptural fragment.
The story and history of this piece and Interi's collection of Florence fragments, in particular, are very interesting. While many fragments are distressed due to age, these Florence fragments in particular stand apart. They symbolize a history that has been carried through the streets of Italy, to an Italian palazzo where they were collected, to the artist's studio, to now the modern home or gallery.
The piece was created by the artist Elena Rousseau for Interi. Together all the elements create a romantic, elegant, and historically significant work old and new. This elegant relief sculpture can adorn any wall or grace any space.
