About the Item

Set of Three 19th Century Plaster Relief Plaques with Classical Decorative Motifs, Sweden A rare and highly evocative set of three plaster relief plaques depicting classical decorative elements, likely produced in the late 19th century. The group comprises three distinct motifs: one featuring acanthus leaves, one executed in a Romanesque style, and one inspired by Greek classical ornamentation. Together, they form a coherent and scholarly ensemble rooted in architectural and ornamental tradition. Each plaque is cast in plaster and shows finely modeled relief work, intended as study pieces or teaching models. All three examples are marked with the initials “TS,” strongly suggesting an origin connected to Tekniska Skolan in Stockholm—later known as Konstfack, Sweden’s most prominent and influential institution for art, design, and crafts education. Such plaster models were historically used in academic training for architects, sculptors, and decorative artists. The surfaces show age-related wear, small chips, and surface irregularities consistent with their age, material, and original educational purpose. These signs of use contribute to their authenticity and historical character, underscoring their function as working objects rather than purely decorative casts. A compelling group of late 19th-century plaster studies, ideal for collectors of architectural fragments, academic art objects, or as sculptural wall pieces in both classical and contemporary interiors. Wear consistent with age and use.
