About the Item
Thom Wheeler, a Taos artist, creates aluminum, bronze and copper wall sculptures that resemble giant pieces of jewelry, embellished with semi-precious stone as well as paintings. His works, including this one, typically utilizes a combination of metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper, embellished with various semi-precious stones, found rocks, or cast glass. He has had one-man shows in several cities including San Francisco, Palm Springs, and New Orleans, and been feature or cover artist in several publications including “Southwest Art”, “New Mexico Magazine”, and “The Houston Chronicle”.
This piece with a wavy design shows various 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" semi-precious stones enclosed with copper and brass on an aluminum
wood surface with tiny brass studs and conical motifs. The piece is signed and dated 2000 as shown.
Dimensions: 32 1/2" L, 9" H and 1" D
Condition: Please see detail photos. The piece is in good condition consistent with wear from display and oxidation to the brass trims and presenting in a particularly colorful and precious manner.
