About the Item
A framed early 19th century French hand-blocked wallpaper panel featuring Artemis.
Artemis was the goddess of nature, wildlife, transitions, care of children, healing and fertility. She was said to roam the forests and mountains, and is depicted with a quiver and arrows, often accompanied by a deer. She was said to have been carried in a silver chariot driven by four silver-horned deer. Her Roman equivalent is Diana.
This lovely panel features Artemis and a deer within a gem shaped frame of intricate borders, and the entire perimeter of the piece is surrounded by a border made to appear like gold rope.
This was framed within the last twenty years in an antiqued gold box frame. There is hanging wire on the back.
