Tito Agnoli Pecary Cabinet for Caleido Frau, 1970

2900 €IVA inclusa

Informazioni sull’articolo

This refined bookcase cabinet was designed by Tito Agnoli for Caleido, a company belonging to the prestigious Gruppo Frau, in the 1970s. It is a rare piece of furniture, highly representative of the designer’s research, capable of blending formal rigor, material elegance, and a clear inclination toward experimentation. The solid wood structure, with clean lines and balanced proportions, features two distinct sections: the upper part, closed by smoked glass sliding doors, and the lower part, characterized by two doors clad in a patchwork of exquisite black peccary leather. This leather, used exclusively in the most high-end creations, is hand-stitched with great precision, creating an irregular geometric pattern that gives the cabinet a unique and sophisticated character. The smoked glass upper section, with internal shelves, is ideal for displaying books, design collections, or decorative objects, while at the same time perfectly suited to hold bottles and glasses, transforming the piece into an elegant home bar. The contrast with the leather-clad lower section creates a dialogue of materials and functions, uniting lightness and transparency with tactile and material depth. The interplay between functionality and beauty is the poetic heart of the project: Agnoli demonstrates once again how design can transcend mere practical use to become an aesthetic and sensorial experience. Not by chance, many of his works are today regarded as true collectible art pieces. Tito Agnoli (1931–2012), a student of Gio Ponti and Franco Albini, was one of the protagonists of 20th-century Italian design. His work is distinguished by continuous research into the use of materials and by a cultured and refined approach. He collaborated with companies such as Arflex, Poltrona Frau, Molteni, Oluce, and Matteo Grassi, leaving an indelible mark on the history of design. The peccary-clad furniture he designed for Caleido belongs to an extremely limited production and is now considered an absolute rarity on the international market. This cabinet is not only a bookcase or storage unit, but a versatile piece that can become a sophisticated bar cabinet, perfect for elegant residential interiors or representative spaces. A rare collectible item, capable of transforming any room with its sculptural presence, signed by one of the great masters of Italian design. Tito Agnoli (1931–2012) was an Italian designer and architect, renowned for his functional and essential approach to design. Born in Lima, Peru, to an Italian family, he moved to Italy to study painting before graduating in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in the early 1950s. During his formative years, he collaborated with masters of design such as Gio Ponti and Carlo De Carli, experiences that profoundly influenced his style. Agnoli distinguished himself for his ability to combine elegance and practicality, designing furniture with sober and clean lines, with particular attention to functionality and industrial production. He worked for some of the most prestigious companies in the sector, including Molteni, Poltrona Frau, Arflex, and Oluce, creating furniture and lighting that are still appreciated today for their essentiality and refinement. His work was repeatedly recognized with awards and honors, including several mentions at the Compasso d’Oro. His minimalist and rational approach left a mark on post-war Italian design, making his creations still highly sought after by collectors and vintage furniture enthusiasts.
