This monumental Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug is a spectacular and exceptionally large tribal textile from the South Caucasus, dating to the late 19th century. Measuring 168 x 313 cm (approx. 5'6" x 10'3"), its impressive size and dramatic, deep-toned design make it a commanding focal point for a large hall, living space, or collector's room.
The composition is centered on a deep madder red/burgundy field, which features a vertical column of three massive, geometrically complex lozenge (diamond) medallions. These dominant forms are meticulously filled with smaller, intricate geometric and floral motifs, and outlined by stepped pyramidal borders in white, yellow, and blue. The remaining field is densely populated with small tribal symbols and stylized flower heads, giving the rug a rich, textural appearance.
The rug is framed by multiple decorative borders, including a main border of abstract geometric guls, providing a crisp contrast to the dense central pattern. Woven from robust, high-quality hand-spun wool with a thick, plush pile, and colored exclusively with deep, enduring natural dyes, this rug embodies the strength, heritage, and artistic complexity of Kazak village weaving.
