Svedese
Prima che Rörstrand e i suoi contemporanei introducessero in Europa i servizi di ceramica , le persone mangiavano principalmente in piatti di metallo. L'azienda svedese di ceramiche è stata fondamentale nel portare la porcellana dalla Cina al mondo occidentale e oggi le ceramiche vintage di Rörstrand sono molto apprezzate dai collezionisti.
L'azienda iniziò nel 1726 presso il Castello di Rörstrand a Stoccolma, sotto la direzione del maestro di porcellana Johann Wolff. Le prime opere non recavano alcun timbro o sigillo che ne segnasse l'origine, poiché all'epoca l'azienda non aveva concorrenti. Quando le aziende concorrenti fecero breccia nel mercato della porcellana, Rörstrand iniziò a stampare i suoi prodotti.
Con l'aumento della domanda di stoviglie in ceramica , i pezzi di Rörstrand riempirono gli armadi delle case della nobiltà, dei reali e dell'élite sociale della Svezia e delle nazioni circostanti. Nel 1800 l'azienda fece molti progressi tecnologici, iniziando a utilizzare le presse a vapore per imprimere i modelli nel materiale. Il XX secolo portò l'azienda sui mercati internazionali dopo aver presentato i suoi pezzi Art Nouveau all'Esposizione Mondiale di Parigi del 1900.
Poiché la Svezia era un paese neutrale durante le guerre mondiali, Rörstrand poté continuare a produrre, mentre altre aziende chiusero i battenti o passarono a produrre articoli per lo sforzo bellico. L'artista-designer svedese Gunnar Nylund ha creato le sue opere più famose - gres smaltato opaco dai toni caldi Art Deco e altro ancora - mentre lavorava per Rörstrand. Negli anni '50, Rorstrand assunse la maestra della porcellana Marianne Westman, chiamata affettuosamente "la Madre della Porcellana". Il suo design, il Rörstrand Mon Amie, divenne uno dei più venduti dell'azienda. Era uno dei tanti design popolari che lei e il suo team hanno sviluppato. Westman continuò a collaborare con l'azienda fino agli anni '60, quando entrò a far parte di altri talenti di rilievo, come la designer Inger Persson.
Nel 1976 l'azienda ha festeggiato 250 anni e a Lidköping è stato inaugurato il Museo Rörstrand, che ospita oltre 15.000 pezzi creati dallo storico produttore di ceramiche.
Con quasi 300 anni di storia, Rörstrand è sopravvissuta a numerosi cambiamenti nella cultura e nelle preferenze di design, mantenendo il suo stile tradizionale e adattandosi senza problemi alle nuove tendenze. In ogni decennio, l'azienda ha debuttato nuovi design, smalti, modelli e tecnologie, apportando nuove innovazioni e intriganti modifiche ai lavori tradizionali.
