Informazioni sull’articolo

Extremely rare and majestic bookcase by Aldo Tura, crafted in Milan around 1960 and entirely clad in natural parchment dyed in a dark tobacco brown hue with a high-gloss mirror finish. An exceptional work of both quality and rarity, it represents one of the most accomplished expressions of Tura’s poetic vision, in which natural material is elevated into an architectural language of extraordinary elegance and rigor. The handcrafted, custom-made structure features three vertical uprights rhythmically dividing the horizontal shelves, creating a perfect balance between solids and voids, light and matter. The lower section is enclosed by two doors with cylindrical brass handles, while the upper open portion offers generous display surfaces ideal for books, objects, and ceramics. The brown-dyed parchment, an iconic material in Aldo Tura’s universe, fully envelops the structure in a continuous mantle of warm, vibrant, and irregular nuances that shift with the light, revealing the manual skill and technical complexity of the process. The hand-polished surface, finished to a mirror sheen, adds depth and a refined sense of opulence, making each detail unique and unrepeatable. This bookcase embodies the sensuality of natural material, the cabinetmaker’s precision, and the sculptural vision typical of the Milanese designer, who conceived furniture as domestic architecture — at once a spatial and pictorial composition. The piece belongs to the most mature phase of Tura’s production, when the designer explored parchment on a large scale as a visual and tactile language, pushing the boundaries between design and decorative art. A museum-level rarity, scarcely found in these dimensions and condition, it exemplifies Aldo Tura’s ability to combine modernist rigor and material sensuality, creating an object that transcends function to become a pure aesthetic statement. Excellent condition with minor signs of age consistent with its period and authenticity.
