Sarapis Stools by Philippe Starck for Driade Set of 2

600 €per set|IVA inclusa

Informazioni sull’articolo

Iconic and sculptural, these Sarapis model stools are among the most emblematic creations by Philippe Starck for Driade, produced in the 1980s. Designed with the unmistakable postmodern touch of the French designer, the stools combine geometric rigor and formal irony in a synthesis that challenges conventional furniture design. Entirely made of anthracite gray painted metal, they feature a minimalist structure with a square perforated seat and four square-section legs. The distinctive feature is the curved half-moon backrest—a strong graphic element that breaks the orthogonality of the design while providing support for the back. Completing the composition are the chrome-plated tubular metal footrests, mounted laterally, adding an industrial note to the overall design. Perfect for contemporary interiors, lofts, and contract spaces, these stools embody Starck’s radical and playful aesthetic, making them as functional as they are collectible. NOTE: THE SET IS AVAILABLE ONLY AS A PAIR. THE PHOTOS SHOWING A SET OF FOUR ARE FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY! Philippe Starck, born in Paris in 1949, is one of the most influential and multifaceted designers of our time. The son of an aeronautical engineer, he developed a deep sensitivity to form, technique, and innovation from an early age. After studying at the prestigious École Nissim de Camondo, he began his career collaborating with Pierre Cardin, for whom he designed futuristic furniture. In the 1980s, he rose to international prominence with projects that blended irony, functionality, and a break from traditional design rules. Starck revolutionized the concept of design by making it accessible and cross-disciplinary, applying his vision to everyday objects such as juicers, chairs, lamps, hotels, restaurants, yachts, and even toothbrushes. His highly recognizable style mixes high-tech and pop influences, minimalism and surrealism, always with a provocative spirit and a democratic approach to design. He has collaborated with renowned companies like Kartell, Alessi, Flos, Vitra, Cassina, and Driade, and is known for iconic projects such as the Louis Ghost chair, the Juicy Salif juicer, and the interiors of the Royalton Hotel in New York. His work is driven by strong design ethics and a continuous search for sustainability, aiming to create useful, durable objects that improve people’s lives. Philippe Starck is not just a designer but a visionary who has reinvented the language of design in all its forms. Driade is an Italian design company founded in 1968 in Fossadello di Caorso, in the province of Piacenza, by Enrico Astori, his sister Antonia Astori, and architect Adelaide Acerbi. From the beginning, it has stood out for its cultured and experimental vision of furniture, positioning itself as an “aesthetic laboratory” open to the cross-pollination of art, architecture, and industrial design. Driade’s catalog is eclectic, sophisticated, and unconventional, capable of blending different eras, styles, and languages without ever compromising on formal elegance and artisanal quality. The company collaborates with some of the most important international designers such as Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Patricia Urquiola, Konstantin Grcic, Tokujin Yoshioka, Alessandro Mendini, and many others, promoting a project culture that favors creativity and surprise over functionalist uniformity. Among its most iconic pieces are the Nemo armchair by Fabio Novembre, the storage collections by Antonia Astori, and the postmodern furnishings designed by Starck in the 1980s. Driade is also known for the scenographic quality of its displays and its strongly recognizable visual identity. Today it is part of the ItalianCreationGroup and continues to be a benchmark in the international design scene, combining tradition and avant-garde in a cultured, bold, and always distinctive aesthetic.
