An exceptional piece by Frederick Kiesler, one of the most visionary architects and designers of the 20th century, who profoundly influenced modern design with his revolutionary concepts of spatial continuity and the interplay between form and function. This low coffee table, designed in 1935 for the New York apartment of the celebrated textile designer Alma Mergentine, exemplifies Kiesler’s pioneering philosophy: the seamless integration of art, architecture, and furniture design. As Kiesler famously stated, “Form does not follow function. Function follows vision. Vision follows reality.”
Produced by Alivar / Mvsevm, this table consists of two nesting elements with sculpted tops and conical legs in brushed and painted cast aluminum. The natural porosity of the aluminum is an inherent characteristic of the material, contributing to the tactile and visual authenticity of the piece. The two elements can be arranged in multiple configurations, offering versatility while maintaining a striking, sculptural presence.
