About the Item
A beautifully crafted mid-Victorian hinged bangle bracelet in 18 karat yellow gold, set with a gorgeous pavé dome of turquoise cabochons. The turquoise cluster is framed by intricate cannetille work, a twisted rope motif, and fine gold beading, showcasing the exquisite attention to detail typical of Victorian goldsmithing. The reverse of the bangle is smooth and undecorated, providing a refined contrast to the ornate front.
The bracelet is fitted with a secure hinge and push clasp closure, both in excellent working condition. It remains in very good antique condition, displaying a warm natural patina and only light surface wear consistent with age and use.
In the 19th century, turquoise was one of the most beloved gemstones, frequently associated with good fortune, enduring love, and the symbolic “forget-me-not” flower. Queen Victoria herself favored turquoise, influencing its widespread popularity in sentimental and revival jewelry of the period.
