About the Item
A Victorian pearl, and yellow gold bracelet with propelling pencil, comprising eleven seed pearls, set in 9 karat yellow gold, to a 9 karat yellow gold bracelet, with 9 karat yellow gold propelling pencil.
This unusual bracelet Victorian bracelet is formed as a sturdy hinged bangle, of solid curb link design, studded with gold beads. The top of the bangle is fitted with a pair of gold loops, which holds the propelling pencil. A pearl studded foliate tendril extends diagonally from one loop to the other, adding an elegant, yet functional adornment to the piece, which simultaneously adds a dainty touch, but practically helps to hold the pencil in place. The pencil can be removed from its holder and extended to enable its use. A piece of graphite remains inserted in the tip (which can be replaced, enabling future use) making the small pencil fully functional. A jump ring is affixed to the end of the pencil to prevent it slipping through the loops, and a chain is fastened from the pencil to the bangle, further preventing loss. The bangle opens on a hinge, and is complete with a box clasp, and safety chain. The bracelet is in good condition, there are 2 dents to one of the loops holding the pencil. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The bangle measures 11mm wide at the front, and 5mm wide at the back. The bangle rises 11.3mm off the wrist.
